Leading telecommunications company, MTN had recently announced the arrival of a new musical reality television show, ‘Y’ello Star, from their head office that is located at Falomo, Ikoyi.
The show seeks to develop musical talent by offering a lifetime opportunity to make their dreams and aspirations become a reality.
MTN Nigeria has coached hundreds of young Nigerians in the music industry to specialize in the arts and business since 2006 through the MTNF / MUSON Scholarship Programme. Y’ello Star takes it even further by bringing to every Nigerian television screen the process of creating the ultimate superstar.
Rahul De, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria stated;
”We know that there are a lot of talented people in Nigeria who need to tune up their musical careers. This platform will help launch them to musical heights. We have a wealth of experience in supporting Nigerian talent and are confident we can improve on our past successes,”
Regional auditions are to take place in Abuja, Enugu and Lagos. Finalists that emerged from the auditions will then proceed to the ‘incubation hub’ in Lagos, Where experts in the music industry will coach them in many areas, as they strive for the top prize. The competition will run until June 2021.
MTN Nigeria is at the forefront of supporting events which celebrate the rich arts and culture in the country. MTN has developed entertainment channels such as Music+, MTN Y’ello Top 10 and Music Time, the recently launched music streaming site, in an attempt to promote unbridled talent on the global level.
Did Project Fame return as MTN Y’ello Star?

MTN is specified that Y’ello star would also be a platform now find and launches musical talents in Nigeria. The regional auditions are to take place in the centers in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos. Winners of the audition will now head over to the incubation hub located in Lagos.
The only difference between the both reality television show is that project Fame is open two other African countries while MTN Y’ello Star open to only musically talented persons in Nigeria.

How to register for MTN Y’ello Star
These are quick steps on how to become MTN Y’ello Star.
- Vist the website
- Download MyMTN app
- Upload video on your social media
- Fill form on Facebook
- Get Votes
The Y’ello Star Website: Visit www.mtnonline.com/yellostar and Fill the registration form, Upload your 1 minute video and wait for the progress bar to turn green and Accept the terms and conditions, then Click the submit button; You will get an email notification confirming your registration
myMTN App: Visit your Play or App Store and Download the myMTN App then Click on the Y’ello Star image on the homepage and Fill the form registration. Upload your 1 minute video and wait for the progress bar to turn green and Accept the terms and conditions then Click the submit button, You will get an email notification confirming your registration.
Social Media: Upload a minute video of yourself singing on Instagram or Twitter and Use the hashtag #MTNYelloStar and tag @mtnng, You will receive an automated response from @mtnng then Click the confirmation link and Fill the form and submit.
For Facebook: Click the MTN Y’ello Star tab on the MTN Nigeria Facebook page and Fill the registration form, Upload your 1 minute video and wait for the progress bar to turn green and Click the submit button, You will get an email notification confirming your registration
After successful submission on any of these platforms, share your entry to get your friends and family to vote for you.
Submission Guidelines for MTN Y’ello Star
- All video submissions must be LIVE recordings of yourself singing any cover song of your choice. No original songs, lip synching, studio recordings or highly edited videos will be accepted.
- You may choose to sing acapella or use a live instrument i.e guitar, piano. Do not use backing tracks or instrumentals.
- Shoot your video in a bright/well-lit setting. We want to be able to see you.
- Do not use auto-tune.
- Check your video before submitting it and make sure the audio can be heard clearly.
- Submission videos should be no longer than 60 seconds.
- Video size should be no more than 150MB.
- Only one submission per applicant will be accepted.
Please note that the Closing date to submit entries for MTN Y’ello star is 8th March 2021. Any submissions thereafter will not be accepted.

The Y’ello Star winner will receive these:
- a brand new fully furnished house with an in-house studio

- a recording deal

I registered a day befor the registration end,,, I want to know if. I Have More time to get a vote before the contest start or people can still be voting for me till there call us for audition?
You should start getting votes before audition date cos everyone has same deadline.
Please when is the audition date? How much vote do I need to amass? Does the number of votes qualify one for auditioning?
There is no specified number of votes to reach…the higher the better the chances. the competition might run till june of 2020.
